The Alpe Adria Cycle Path is one of the main connections between Italy and the extensive network of European cycle routes. When completed, this cross-border route (also called CAAR) will safely join the town of Salzburg (in Austria) with the seaside village of Grado, or vice versa.
Our "Ciclovia Alpe Adria Radweg" is a beautiful route that offers the opportunity for all cyclists to visit many places of environmental, historical and cultural interest. Both in Austria and in Italy, the scenery changes constantly: large depressions alternate with ravines or narrow wild valleys, then the moraine hills, the fertile plain of Friuli, the lagoon and, finally, the beach on the Adriatic Sea!
Cyclist will cross the Italian Alps riding mainly on the old railway "Pontebbana", until 1995 one of the most spectacular railroads of Europe, recently converted into a dream cycle path!
We split the main route in 9 sections and prepare some short description of each. Choose your pages according to the direction you plan to ride along this route:
1) from North to Sud, namely from Salzburg to Grado;
2) from South to North, namely from Grado to Salzburg.
Our staff is also working to prepare a new section called "Other Paths" where you will find informations about the main routes to which our Alpe Adria Cycle Path is connected.
