We leave Spittal continuing to follow the Drauradweg (Drava Cycle Path - R1): exit the city through the quiet suburbs thanks to cycle paths and some secondary roads. The Alpe Adria Radweg cycle route continues through the neatly cultivated countryside up to the pretty village of Sankt Peter. Continue along the roads with little traffic, which first run along the railway line and then the motorway to the village of Mauthbrücken , where the route continues along the left bank of the river. From here to Villach, the cycle path almost always runs along the banks of the river, partly on paved tracks, partly on dirt roads, but always of excellent quality.
The valley is quite wide and you cycle through the woods, the neat fields and small villages. At the height of Paternion you pass on the opposite bank of the river using a cycle / pedestrian passage built on top of a hydroelectric dam and after a few kilometers you reach the beautiful town of Feistriz a.d. Drau. We continue to pedal along the bank of the river that flows peacefully beside us. Just beyond Feffernitz, a characteristic wooden ferry goes back and forth between the two banks of the Drava. Since the ferry also carries bicycles, those wishing to continue cycling on the path that continues on the opposite bank of the Drava, touching the village of Lasach, must do nothing but ring the bell placed near the boarding.
At Grummern the path climbs a bridge to return to the left bank of the river. From this point the Drava valley narrows considerably: you ride in the cool of the forest until you come to a mighty hydroelectric dam. Go around the dam, enter the outskirts of Villach and continue pedaling along the river until you reach the center of the beautiful Carinthian city.
